What's new at Dometrain

New features, improvements, and content, shipped every week.

September 2026

Your language, everywhere in a lesson

Translated lesson content now reaches diagram and hands-on exercises, and the language list grew from 10 to 29.

New

29 languages, now on exercises too

Lesson instructions translate into 29 languages, up from 10. The picker also works on diagram and hands-on exercise lessons now, not just video ones, and your subtitle language and caption styling stay put between lessons.

New

A mobile app is on the way

We have been building a Dometrain app so your courses travel with you. Nothing to install yet, but the course links you already have will open straight into it when it lands.

August 2026

Bookmark any lesson

Save the lessons you want to come back to, and stay in fullscreen from one video to the next.

New

Bookmarks

Star any lesson from the player or the curriculum sidebar and it lands in one list in your dashboard. Handy for the explanation you already know you will want again.

Check it out
Improved

Fullscreen that stays

Fullscreen now carries across from one video to the next instead of collapsing every time a lesson ends. It steps out on its own when the next lesson is not a video.

Improved

Sharper autocomplete

C# and JavaScript suggestions stop offering you variables from scopes you are not actually in. Method signatures in lesson text are also highlighted as the right language instead of being guessed at.

Improved

Go exercises stopped crashing

Go lessons no longer fall over on a common pattern that returns several values at once.

Three new courses, and tokens back when the agent gives up

C, C++ and PHP get full beginner courses, and the AI agent refunds you when it cannot get your exercise working.

Content

Hands-On: C, C++ and PHP for Beginners

Three more languages get the full hands-on treatment. Every lesson is an exercise you write and run in the browser, graded on what your code actually does.

Check it out
Improved

Tokens back when the agent cannot help

If the AI agent fails to get your exercise passing, the tokens for that whole turn go straight back to your balance. You also get told what happened instead of being left guessing.

Improved

Remove your profile photo

You can clear your profile picture and drop back to the default avatar, instead of being stuck with whatever you uploaded once.

Check it out
Improved

Certificates count toward achievements

Downloading a certificate now registers properly, so the achievements tied to it unlock like they should.

Improved

Exercises that keep up with you

C and C++ exercises compile faster, C# stopped mistaking working code for an infinite loop, terminal lessons advance the moment you finish them, and hammering the run button no longer confuses the runner.

Quizzes you can actually read

Code in quiz questions renders as code now, and the editor learned to autocomplete Go and PHP.

Improved

Quizzes, rebuilt

Code blocks in questions render as real, syntax highlighted code instead of collapsing into one long unreadable line. Multi select questions score correctly, and reopening a quiz you already passed shows what you answered last time, with a button to clear it and try again.

Improved

Autocomplete for Go and PHP

The editor suggests as you type in Go and PHP lessons. Go completions know the packages you imported and can add the import for you.

Improved

Faster where it was slowest

Java exercises start and run noticeably quicker, and the Linux terminal got a large responsiveness pass.

Improved

Feedback you can see

When we act on something you reported, the notification quotes what you actually wrote, so you know which report it is answering.

Bash, Vim, and a quieter way to learn

Two new terminal courses land on the in-browser Linux machine, and Zen mode switches off everything that interrupts you mid lesson.

Content

Hands-On: Learn Bash

Ten chapters of real shell work in a disposable Linux terminal. Files and pipelines first, then variables, conditions, loops, functions and exit statuses. Every exercise is graded on what your commands actually did, so there is no passing by reading.

Check it out
Content

Hands-On: Learn Vim

Learn the editor that is already installed on every machine you will ever log into. It starts with getting out without losing work, then builds up motions and operators, search and substitute, buffers, registers and macros. Grading looks at the file you saved.

Check it out
New

Zen mode

One toggle silences the XP popups, the confetti and the achievement toasts, so a lesson is just the lesson. Everything still counts, it just stops interrupting.

Improved

Your terminal remembers

The Linux terminal keeps its transcript across a reload, so refreshing no longer wipes what you typed. It also boots with a proper startup screen instead of a blank rectangle.

Content

SkillScore adds Blazor

Blazor joins the lineup, with the same adaptive questions and the same map of what to study next.

Check it out
Improved

Fixes from your feedback

Exercises autosave your work, terminal lessons show their goal steps as you clear them, raw string literals stop tripping up the editor, and diagram lessons behave on smaller screens.

July 2026

Earn Gems, and a real Linux machine in your browser

Everything you finish now pays out in Gems you can spend on your profile and your editor, and a full Linux system boots inside a browser tab with a new course to go with it.

New

Gems: earn them, spend them, keep them

Finishing lessons, holding streaks and unlocking achievements now earn Gems. Spend them in the new Shop on profile accents, editor themes and editor fonts, and everything you redeem lives in the Vault so you never lose track of what you own.

New

A real Linux machine, in a browser tab

A full Linux system now boots inside the lesson terminal, with a real file system and real commands, nothing to install. The new Learn Linux course puts it to work from your very first command.

Improved

Make the editor yours

Pick the typeface you code in from ten monospace faces, and unlock more of them with Gems. Your choice follows you into every lesson.

Content

SkillScore adds Docker, Kubernetes, Git and GitHub

Four more skills you can put a real number on, with the same timed adaptive assessment and the same breakdown of where your gaps are.

Check it out
Improved

Clearer completion, steadier exercises

Interactive lessons now tell you exactly what is left before they will count as complete, instead of quietly refusing. SQL exercises recover after a failed statement, hung runs in Java, Go and Python give up instead of spinning forever, and the Go editor stopped crashing.

Find out how good you actually are

SkillScore is live: a timed, adaptive assessment that gives you a real rating for a skill, shows you exactly where your gaps are, and tells you what to study next.

New

SkillScore: your skills, measured

Take a timed assessment and walk away with a chess-style rating that says where you actually stand. Questions adapt to your answers as you go, so the result is honest, and you get a map of your weak areas plus the exact lessons that close them. Available now for C#, ASP.NET Core, and EF Core.

Check it out
New

Share your score, climb the weekly board

Your SkillScore gets a shareable page you can post anywhere, and the new weekly top ten on the leaderboard shows the highest ratings earned in the last seven days. The leaderboard itself got a full redesign with a podium and a live feed.

Check it out
Improved

Keep moving without lifting a finger

Pass a hands-on exercise and you can now flow straight into the next lesson. Turn on auto advance once and the player takes you forward every time you get it right.

Improved

Tell us what to build next

There is a new feedback form on the contact page for telling us what you want to see or what feels missing. When we act on it, you hear back in your notification center. Quiz lessons also joined the in-lesson feedback button, so you can flag a question the moment something looks off.

Check it out
Improved

Smoother hands-on lessons

System design diagrams drag more smoothly, the terminal cursor behaves, and your editor panel sizes are remembered between lessons. Exercises also recover on their own if the in-browser runner ever stumbles, and C, C++, and Python exercises handle more real-world code.

Real Git in your browser, and a dashboard rebuilt

A huge week: run real Git commands in a browser terminal, get a completely redesigned dashboard, take notes while you watch, and never lose a streak to one busy day again.

New

Learn Git by actually using Git

New Git lessons drop you into a real terminal running a real Git engine in your browser. Branch, merge, rebase, resolve conflicts, and hit the same errors you would hit at work, with a visual history graph, a source control panel, and a diff viewer beside you. Your repository is saved, so you can close the tab and pick up exactly where you left off.

Improved

Your dashboard, rebuilt

The dashboard is now a proper home base. Daily rings show your progress at a glance, your streak and next lesson greet you at the top, and courses, activity, achievements, and account settings each got a cleaner home in a simpler sidebar.

Check it out
New

A notification center that remembers

A bell in the header now keeps everything you need to know in one place: offers, announcements, and replies to your feedback. Notifications arrive live while you browse and stay in your inbox until you deal with them.

Check it out
New

Streak freezes have your back

Push hard on a good day and you bank a streak freeze. Miss a day later and the freeze is spent for you automatically, so one busy day no longer wipes out weeks of momentum.

New

Take notes while you watch

Video lessons now have a notes panel that stamps the exact moment you were at, so you can jump straight back to it later. The player also gained chapters, picture in picture, a quality selector, caption styling you control, and keyboard shortcuts with a cheatsheet, all gathered in one settings menu.

New

Your own code library

Save your own files inside the exercise editor and keep them for every lesson in that language. Build up scratch files, notes, and snippets as you learn, organize them into folders, and copy anything into the exercise you are working on.

New

Learning paths, made for you

Fixed, one-size-fits-all paths are gone. Tell us your goal and you get a personal path built around what you already know and where you want to end up, with a share link if you want to show it off.

Check it out
Improved

Achievements worth showing off

Achievements now come in tiers you evolve through, with brand new artwork for every one of them, grouped so you can see how far along each chain you are.

Check it out
Improved

A faster way around the site

The main menu was rebuilt with clearer sections and trending courses, and it finally feels right on a phone. The catalog also gained topic pages, so you can browse everything we have on a subject in one place.
